In this blog, we're going to talk about three ways that you can decorate plastic packaging. Let's jump right into it.
1. Foil Stamping
The first method we'll discuss is foil stamping. Foil transfer is easiest on a flat surface, however, achieving perfection with tiny letters can be difficult, especially when printing on a radius. If you're looking for precise lettering or very small legal information, you might want to consider traditional printing instead. Foil transfer, though, is a great way to get a nice, metallic, shiny finish for your logo or text.
Regarding font sizes, while there's no strict rule, we recommend keeping font sizes above three points. However, this can vary due to the vast array of fonts available. Here at Contempo, we ensure your files are production-ready, testing and sampling if necessary to make sure details are visible and durable. Additionally, all these plastic products can incorporate PCR (post-consumer recycled) content, ocean-bound plastic, and some can even be home compostable bio-resin. There's another type of foil gaining traction in the marketplace, featuring various patterns like diamond shapes or iridescent colors. This foil can be applied in a way that creates different visual effects across the packaging, offering more than just color or metallic looks.
2. Spot UV Finish
Next up is Spot UV finish. This technique adds an extra pop to your packaging, as seen with the perfectly aligned leaf icon on our example. By applying a heavy layer of UV varnish over the print, you can achieve a raised, highly reflective surface. This method brings a super premium vibe typically seen in board packaging to plastic jars, matching aesthetics across different substrates.
3. Electroplating
Lastly, let's talk about electroplating. Unlike traditional foil, electroplating gives a metallic look, similar to a ribbon, but with a more consistent finish. It's perfect for matching the lid with the base or integrating the look of your packaging elements like boxes, jars, or tubes. Electroplating and foil can provide similar effects, tying the whole package together aesthetically for a cohesive look.
